About Me

Poonam Chudasama offers legal advice on Family Law issues and cases with over a decade of experience in family solicitation services that have helped people navigate through divorce and separation.
My Family Law

I started My Family Law as a means to provide my Family Law experience and knowledge to people that need it. Without basic information, families have to align with one set of solicitors, which can be daunting and expensive. I aim to provide clarity as we navigate the challenges of a divorce or separation, together.

About Poonam Chudasama

I am a Family Solicitor and I have been practising Family law since 2008, first as a Paralegal then as a Trainee and I qualified in 2012 as a Solicitor.

I have worked in Leicester and Leicestershire throughout my career and have dealt with cases throughout the Midlands.

I have experience in all types of Family Law cases including Divorce and Finances, Separation and Cohabitation, Children matters and Domestic Abuse cases.

I am a member of Resolution, and I am Resolution Accredited as having particular expertise in dealing with Children Act and Domestic Abuse cases.

My experience has been gained from working on a variety of cases dealing with often complex issues. I have worked with and supported many different types of clients, from those who have had to flee their homes, to those who have high-value assets.

Each client is an individual with their own personal circumstances and their own story and I have built my career in understanding the needs of my clients in the present and long term.

I wanted to start this website, not just as a means to put out my experience and knowledge, but for a place where people can access information without feeling pressured to align with one set of solicitors. Although I do take on work, and enquiries, this website and my Blogs and News are written for the everyday person who may need some extra information about a particular issue. In Family law, where there are difficult relationships, it is often hard to see a clear path towards the end – so I am here to hopefully provide some clarity.

The blogs that I write and the content I produce are purely from my own point of view, and it usually includes my experience in dealing with various cases. My point of view, or content may not always agree with everyone, and the advice I put out may not suit all cases. My intention is never to offend or discourage anyone from seeking legal advice independently. It is always best to have legal advice on the circumstances of your own case, as no two cases are ever the same.

FAQs

Court proceedings should always be a last resort in matrimonial cases. Parties who are willing to settle a dispute without the help of a third party should be encouraged to do so as a starting point.

Normally the divorce process is straightforward and involves three online applications being submitted to the Court (starting with the divorce petition).

  • Your marriage is legally recognised in the UK
  • If you have been married for over a year
  • Your relationship has irretrievably broken down
  • The UK is either of the parties’ permanent home

Public funding is available to people who may have a low income and would otherwise not be able to put forward a case. In most cases there will be a ‘means’ and ‘merit’ test in order to establish if a client is eligible for this and funding will only be given if there is a strong benefit to the client.

My Family Law is a Resolution member

Resolution is a community of family justice professionals who work with families to resolve issues in a constructive way.

Resolution was founded in 1982 by a group of family lawyers who believed that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Being a Resolution member connects My Family Law with a wide variety of practitioners working in the family justice sphere, ensuring families dealing with separation and divorce issues receive the support they need.
